Where Strikes Against Cancer Began…

Fighting Cancer One Strike at a Time!
Cover Magazine
Honored and recognized by Representative Sanford in the House of Representatives

The genesis of Strikes Against Cancer traces back to the heartfelt dream of Geordon Cox, an 11-year-old boy, driven by a desire to gift his mother a timeless Christmas present. A devout member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Geordon formerly attended the Faith Christian Academy in McKinney, Texas.

Throughout his mother’s arduous battle against cancer, her greatest wish was to witness Geordon pitch. Moved by her unwavering support despite her own health struggles, Geordon sought a way to reciprocate her love and bolster all mothers facing similar battles against cancer. His solution: rallying family members and friends to pledge their support, contributing for every strike he threw during the season.

Unbeknownst to Geordon at the time, the inception of an idea would evolve into something of pantheonic proportions in the years ahead.

The Inception 2010

The genesis of Strikes Against Cancer emerges from the passionate heart of Geordon Cox, a determined 11-year-old boy fueled by the fervent desire to bestow his mother with an enduring gift. Rather than idly watching from the sidelines, Geordon’s father steered his young son towards active engagement, encouraging him to channel his energy into purposeful action.

Despite grappling with immense adversity, including the devastating loss of his grandmother, Rosemary Cox, to lymphoma, Geordon held a steadfast belief that cancer claimed the lives of far too many. It became paramount for him to embody selflessness while embracing the responsibility of giving back to the community.

For Geordon, this endeavor transcends mere philanthropy; it resonates with profound personal significance. It stands as a poignant homage to his cherished loved ones within the community and serves as a luminous beacon of hope for all those ensnared by the clutches of cancer.

The Historical
Oversight of
One Letter for
over 165 Years

1859, a Whirlwind of Historical Events

In 1859, history witnessed seismic shifts: Charles Darwin unleashed his groundbreaking treatise “On the Origin of Species,” while John Brown’s raid on the federal armory at Harpers Ferry inflamed abolitionist fervor. Charles Dickens unveiled his timeless masterpiece “A Tale of Two Cities,” construction commenced on the monumental Suez Canal, a feat of engineering that would reshape global trade and connectivity.  In the American West, the discovery of the silver-rich Comstock Lode near Virginia City sparked a frenzied rush. Meanwhile, Abraham Lincoln tirelessly traversed the political landscape, laying the groundwork for his historic presidential bid, while Ulysses S. Grant, though facing setbacks in business, stood on the cusp of military greatness.

And on this fateful day of June 18th 1859, Henry Chadwick etched his name into the annals of sports history, scoring the first game of baseball and immortalizing the iconic symbol of a strikeout with the simple yet enduring letter “K.” This year epitomized a pivotal moment where innovation, conflict, and ambition converged to shape American history.

The Pillars of Progress: Navigating the Strategic Evolution of Our Brand

In the ancient realm of artistry, the Greek Sisters of Caryatids stand tall in Athens Greece, their graceful forms supporting the weight of history like pillars of strength. Among them, the poignant tale of the “Lost Daughter,” removed by Lord Elgin between 1801-1803, now resides solitary in the British Museum, separated from her five Sisters for over 223 years. This historical disconnection served as the backdrop to a three lustrum journey undertaken by our Executive Director, seeking to unite the three “K’s” of baseball that had gone unnoticed in trademark for over 150 years.

The approach mirrored the profound harmony of the Mandarin Duck, where each component is integral to completion. Recognizing that the absence of one “K” would leave the brand incomplete and vulnerable to market confusion, our Executive Director meticulously refined the organizations marks to their purest and most authentic essence.

With unwavering dedication, all three K’s—the Forward K, the Backwards K, and the Backwards Circle K—have now found unity under a single organizational umbrella, marking the first time in 165 years since their inception in 1859. This extraordinary historical oversight, culminating in the monumental achievement of trademarking these symbols, now serves as the cornerstone of Strikes Against Cancer’s fundraising brand.

As the Sisters of Caryatids remain steadfast, supporting the weight of history, so too does the brand stand tall, strengthened by unity and the purpose of cancer fundraising. In this odyssey of Intellectual Property evolution, Strikes Against Cancer humbly honor tradition while embracing revolutionary innovation, recognizing that our brand’s strength lies not only in its history but in its creative adaptability and resilience, serving as a pillar of hope in the fight against cancer.

“The Strikes Against Cancer brand, and registered trademarks, is our most valuable Intellectual Property” said Adam Cox.
